Heating System in Japan Camper Vans
The parking heater is a very useful piece of equipment, however great care must be taken to ensure it operates without failures.
Please strictly follow the instructions below to operate the PARKING HEATER:
IMPORTANT NOTE :
It is obligatory to drive or ( if stationary for few days ) to run the engine for at least 3-4 hours a day to make sure that the sub-battery is fully charged so the parking heater may run all night without power failure.

Park the van in a desired location ( Van must be stationary when using the heater).
STEP 2
STEP 2
Make sure the Vent and Combustions system inlets/ outlets are not blocked
with anything ( for example loose leafs, snow, plastic bags).
The Combustion system inlets and outlets are located under the vehicle.
STEP 3
with anything ( for example loose leafs, snow, plastic bags).
The Combustion system inlets and outlets are located under the vehicle.
STEP 3
Confirm your current Altitude. Use the Application provided ("My Altitude").
Heater cannot be used at altitudes over 1,500 meters !
STEP 4
Heater cannot be used at altitudes over 1,500 meters !
STEP 4
Open the window or the roof vent (a small gap will do).
Note! Do not open the roof vent if it is snowing (or if there is a chance of snow at night)
as the weight of the snow will definitely brake the roof vent.
STEP 5
Note! Do not open the roof vent if it is snowing (or if there is a chance of snow at night)
as the weight of the snow will definitely brake the roof vent.
STEP 5
Start the Van Engine to provide extra battery charging
(The Heater uses a lot of power to preheat the glow plugs inside the unit)
STEP 6
(The Heater uses a lot of power to preheat the glow plugs inside the unit)
STEP 6
Set the Thermostat to max temperature and turn the heater ON.
(Heater will start after a few minutes)
STEP 7
(Heater will start after a few minutes)
STEP 7
Wait until the heater blows hot air. Run the engine for a few more minutes
and then you may turn the Van engine OFF.
STEP 8
and then you may turn the Van engine OFF.
STEP 8
Make sure you run the heater for minimum 30 minutes every time it starts.
COMMON PROBLEMS and SOLUTIONS
(TROUBLESHOOTING):
Problem:
Solution: |
Heater does not start. It blows cold air only.
Usually this happens when you are parked in a too high altitude (over 1,000 meters) or when the Battery Voltage is too low. Another common problem is blocked inlets/ outlets (both: inside and outside).Confirm your current altitude and make sure the Engine is ON. |
Problem:
Solution: |
The heater starts and blows hot air but after a while it stops.
This usually happens when the Thermostat setting is set to too low temperature. The thermostat settings are valid for range 7-30 degrees. Set the thermostat to approx. half. |
Problem:
Solution: |
The thermostat does not work and I need to open the door to cool down.
This usually happens when the Thermostat is set to too hot temperature The moment you open the doors, cold air gets inside the van which the heater senses and switches again to full power mode. Set the thermostat to lower setting in small steps and wait a few minutes for the heater to sense and adjust the temperature. The thermostat setting does not work immediately. |
Problem:
Solution: |
The heater switches On and Off all night long and drains the battery.
This usually happens when the heater heats up the air inside the van too quickly (when outside temperature is too warm). The thermostat senses the temperature and switches the heater off. After a while the temperature inside the van cools down and the heater restarts drawing a lot of power from the sub battery. If this happens often, the sub battery may be drained in a few hours. Deliver more cold air from outside (for example open the windows even more) to ensure the heater does not stop. |
Thermostat diagrams. Our heaters use two different switches:
MUST DO and MUST NOT DO LIST:
- MUST
- Open the window or the roof Vent ( a few mm gap will do). In winter months open the windows only.
- Start the van engine before starting the heater.
- Confirm the Altitude (must be below 1,500 m).
- Check if the inside and outside ( located under the van) inlets / outlets are not blocked.
- Run the heater for minimum 30 minutes every time it starts.
- MUST NOT
- Never start the heater at altitudes above 1,500 m. The heater may start working but operating it without sufficient oxygen level (above 1,500 m) will cause it to fail after few hours. You will be charged for the repairs if this happens.
- Never drive with the heater turned on because air with rubbish/ rain water / snow may be sucked into combustion chamber and the heater will fail.
You will be charged for the repairs if this happens.
Happy warm nights inside our vans !!!
