What license do I need to drive in Japan?
  • International Driving Permit based on the Geneva Convention of 1949 (paper version only), issued by official authorities and valid within 1 year from the date of issue.

    ​Countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, UK, India, Israel, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, Hong Kong, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and more.


  • Driving license translation issued by the Japan Automobile Federation.

What is the driver's age requirement?
Drivers must be at least 18 years old.

Drivers under 21 years old and over 70 years old are obligated to pay an additional damage deposit.
Where can I pick up/drop off the campervan?
You can pick up and drop off the campervan at either Tomisato depot (near Tokyo-Narita Airport) or Osaka depot (near Osaka-Kansai Airport). Other drop off location available.
One way rentals are subject to extra charge.

What are the pick-up/drop-off timings?
We are open from 9 AM to 5 PM, 7 days a week

Late pick-ups and drop-offs must be discussed with our staff and will incur an additional charge.

❗ Please note that if your flight lands at Narita Airport after 4 PM, you most likely won’t be able to catch the last shuttle and pick up the van on time, so we recommend renting from the next day.
Do you offer a free shuttle from/to the airport?
We offer a free shuttle between 9:30 AM and 5 PM from/to Narita Airport, Keisei Narita Station, and nearby hotels*.

*For Wink Journey customers, our shuttle is available only at Keisei Narita Station.
Can I stay a night in your guesthouse?
We offer one night free ( for all bookings over 150,000 JPY) in our guesthouse for travelers who wish to rest before pick-up or after drop-off. The guesthouse is a fully equipped Japanese-style sharehouse with 3 bedrooms, a shared kitchen, toilet, and bathroom, located at Japan Campers' premises.

We offer a fee shuttle to the guesthouse 7 days a week from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
Outside business hours, please arrange your own transport (taxi, bus).

Please let us know in advance if you would like to book a stay.


Is one-way rental possible?
We offer one-way rentals from our Tokyo & Osaka depots to major cities in Japan, but please note that this service is subject to staff availability and may vary depending on the season.

At the moment, we operate from our Tomisato ( next to Narita airport) and Osaka Depots (next to Kansai Airport). An additional charge applies for all one way rentals as the vans must be returned to their original location.

Example:
  • Narita → Osaka: ( extra 60,000 to 100,000 JPY - depending on the van)
  • Narita → Fukuoka: ( extra 120,000 JPY - as it requires 2 days driving back)
Is insurance included?
All our campervans are fully insured with comprehensive insurance. In the event of an accident, the insurance will cover damages to your vehicle, third-party property, and bodily injuries.

In the case of an accident, you will be required to pay an excess fee (the amount of the van damage deposit) as follows:
  • Up to 100,000 JPY for mini and big campervans
  • Up to 150,000 JPY for the Nissan Nova
  • Up to 200,000 JPY for motorhomes
    ​
The excess fee (damage deposit) will go up by 50% in the event of a second accident.
​

Please be aware that incidents categorized as negligent driving, or incidents not reported to the police and JC staff, are not covered by insurance.
Do you have special offers for long-term rentals?
We offer special discounts for long-term rentals, with rates varying depending on the season.

If you receive a better offer from another company, let us try to beat it!
How does the booking process work?​
  1. Visit our website to select your preferred campervan and complete the reservation form

  2. Once availability is confirmed, we will send you a rental quotation and make a temporary reservation for 24 hours, giving you time to confirm your dates.

  3. Pay the initial booking deposit to secure your campervan.
    Optionally, you can pay the remaining rental fee and van damage deposit in advance.


  4. Let us know your arrival time so we can schedule the pick-up.

  5. Pick up your campervan and begin your adventure!
How can I pay for a campervan?
The rental fee can be paid in advance via international bank transfer or PayPal, or at our office by credit card or cash (JPY and other major currencies).

Van damage deposit can be paid via cash in our office or PayPal in advance and will be fully refunded when the van is returned undamaged.

Be aware of commission fees:
  • International Bank Transfer: set fee up to 5,000 JPY
  • Credit Card payment: +4%
  • PayPal: +4.5%

Please note:
  • Not every credit card works in Japan, so please check with your bank in advance.
  • Most ATMs have daily withdrawal limits:
    • Japan Post ATMs: 50,000 yen per day.
    • Seven Bank (7-Eleven): Up to 100,000 yen per day.

Our recommendation:
  • Rental fee: Pay with international bank transfer at least 2 weeks before rental or in cash during pickup 
  • Deposit: Cash in your own currency (we accept EUR, USD, GBP, CAD, SGD, AUD, NZD, CHF).
How much time does van pick-up procedure take?
​Making a contract and van explanation takes at least 1 hour

Be aware of the following:
  • Airport arrival procedure: +1 hour
  • Transport from Tokyo/Haneda Airport to Narita Airport: +1.5 hours
  • Shuttle to our office:
    • From NRT airport: +20 minutes
    • From Keisei Narita Station: +10 minutes

We offer a peaceful environment where you can spend time packing your van, asking our staff for travel tips, taking free equipment left by other travelers, repacking, leaving unnecessary luggage in our storage, having a shower, or even relaxing in a hammock before hitting the road.

Pick-up is available until 5 PM, so we recommend coming in advance to make sure you're well-prepared for your journey.
Is the campervan equipped with cooking and camping equipment?
Yes, our campervans (exept Wink Journey) are fully equipped for no additional cost. Please check "Included Equipment" on the van pages. 
Is bedding included?
Yes, seasonal bedding with an additional mattress is included in your rental. 

​A bedding cleaning fee will apply (1,000 JPY / bedding set)
What is the ETC highway toll system?
ETC stands for Electronic Toll Collection. It’s a system used for toll payments on highways, allowing drivers to pay tolls electronically without stopping at toll booths.

We provide a free ETC card with each rental, which you can use during your trip and pay the toll bill when returning the van.

As an independent traveler, you will have the freedom to experience Japan at your own pace. You will be able to visit all the major attractions, but also be able the explore the many less touristy, but exquisite locations.
​How about visiting Japan during Sunny Winter January and February) and enjoy visiting many tourist places and being there alone! Our campers are  winterised for the colder months , with snow tires and parking heaters available ( Except the Mini vans)
As veteran RV travellers ourselves, we have anticipated your every need and fitted our campervans for your safety, convenience and comfort. Our campers are self-contained, which means you can park & sleep wherever stopping a vehicle is permitted (even in the middle of Tokyo). You will be able to cook your own meals thanks to included kitchen equipment (gas stove, pan, pot, kettle, cutlery, cups, plates etc.). 
​Nights in our campervans have never been more comfortable. We will prepare for you a set of bedding adapted to the season prevailing in Japan: warm blankets and sleeping bags in the winter, light sheets and a portable fan for summer nights. If necesarry, we will offer an additional mattress or two. We will use all our experience so that you leave Japan Campers prepared for unforgettable travel.
