Questions & Answers About Campervaning in Japan:
Q. Where can I drive my rented campervan?
A. From April to December, you can drive our campers on all 4 major islands of Japan: Honshu, Kyushu, Shikoku and Hokkaido.
During the winter time (January, February and March) you are not allowed to take the vans to Hokkaido Island (Northern Island) because they are 2WD and not winterised enough to cope with the very harsh conditions. All year around, you cannot take the vehicle on a ferry to the Okinawa Island. |
Q. Do I need to check the condition of the campervan during the pickup?
A. We do run a vehicle condition check during the pickup but if you find a new apparent defect (not listed on the Vehicle Condition Report at the time of collection) you have to inform us immediately. Make sure you check the rented camper thoroughly because once you drive off with a signed Rental Agreement, most claims will not be accepted.
Q. Do I need to re-fuel my Campervan upon returning the vehicle?
A. Yes. All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel at the commencement of the hire period and should be returned with a full tank. If the vehicle is not returned with a full tank of fuel, the cost of the fuel and a re-fuelling fee of 2.000 Yen will be charged to your contract.
Q. How many people can you seat in one campervan?
A. Each Camper has a different number of belted seats. You cannot seat more people than the maximum allowed for each camper. The number of sleeping berths does not necessary correspond with the number of belted seats. For example “Mazda Bongo” can carry maximum 5 people but there are only 3-4 sleeping spaces.

Q. Do Japan Campers come with bedding and living gear?
A. Each Campervan is fully equipped and comes with the following items (rental provided free of charge - small cleaning fee applies to bedding):
◆ Sheets (or blankets). ◆ Pillows with pillow cases. ◆ Sleeping bags. ◆ 12V fridge / freezer. ◆ Gas stove and kettle, pots, pan and utensils. ◆ Plates, dishes, cups, basic cutlery and chopping board. ◆ Sink (or small water tank + hand bowl). ◆ All around curtains. ◆ 100V Inverter (max. 100 Watts) - to charge your PC. ◆ USB port for charging small devices. ◆ USB powered portable speakers ◆ Portable LED lights. ◆ Portable mini fan. ◆ Anti-Mosquito window nets. ◆ Picnic table + picnic chairs. ◆ English Navigation and Wi-Fi on board Note! We do not provide personal body towels, so please bring your own or buy them in Japan. |
Q. Can I bring Suitcases with me?
A. We recommend that you bring soft bags and small day-trip bags (backpacks). The storage size varies – depending on a campervan. Storage space is divided into small compartments. In case you can only bring hard suitcases, you can still travel comfortably keeping your bags at the back of the van during the day and moving them on the front seats during the night. We also have storage room for storing excessive luggage. Free of charge during the rental duration ( limit 1 bag/ person).

Q. I see your Campervans are not equipped with toilets....how do I go about it in Japan? In my country we need to pay for using toilets. Is it an extra cost?
A. In Japan, there are plenty of toilets everywhere. All of them are completely free of charge. You can find and use them at any Convenience store, Shopping center, Railway Stations, Mc Donalds, Road Stations (Michi-no-Eki), Parking Areas, etc... Basically, there is always a toilet nearby and you can always ask somebody: "Sumimasen, toire wa doko desuka?" ( "excuse me where is a toilet"). Japanese people are very friendly and you will be pointed to the nearest toilet. Of course, we do rent portable chemical toilets (if required for an emergency) but they take out some valuable Campervan space and they need to be cleaned and emptied out too.
Q. How do we pay for the tolls when driving on highways?
A. All highways are toll roads and the cost is based on the distance traveled. You may pay for the tolls in most cases with Credit Card or simply with cash - therefore controlling your spending.
