Road Stations in Japan
Road Station or Roadside Station - it is a place for people who are travelling by car or motorcycle to rest, shop and eat. It is very similar to SA (Service Area) and PA (Parking Area) which are located on the highways.
Michinoeki are parking places along the roads - there are shops with local goods (usually local fresh vegetable, fruits, meat and sweets) and souvenirs.
Every Road Station has clean toilets. It is a perfect place to read&sleep during your traveling around Japan.
According to Japanese Road Bureau there are around 1000 Road Stations in Japan.
